The state government has mandated that all houses built under the Awas Yojana in rural areas must display the state government logo. The logos will be distributed from the state secretariat, Nabanna, to district administrations. A Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) has been issued to ensure the consistent implementation of this directive across districts.
Under the scheme, beneficiaries are required to build houses with a minimum size of 25 square meters, completing construction within a year of receiving government funds. For landless beneficiaries, district authorities have been directed to identify and allot suitable government land for house construction. The SOP also specifies that beneficiaries must be provided construction materials, such as cement, bricks, and iron, at affordable rates. Local dealers and traders are expected to facilitate the availability of these materials.
Each house must include a toilet, which will be constructed under the ‘Nirmal Bangla’ initiative. The Public Health Engineering Department is responsible for ensuring water supply to all houses built under the scheme, while the State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (SEDCL) will oversee the provision of electricity connections. These measures are designed to ensure that basic amenities are included in all homes.
District administrations have been instructed to monitor the supply of construction materials, oversee the timely completion of houses, and ensure that beneficiaries adhere to the guidelines. The SOP outlines specific timelines, responsibilities, and quality control measures to ensure proper implementation and uniformity in the construction process.
